Dental Crowns
Portland, OR

Dental Crowns - Holistic dentist Portland, ORAt Arbor View Dental, we are able to cap teeth that have lost their strength through severe damage with dental crowns.

Dental Crowns are needed when:

•  When teeth are cracked or fractured they lose their strength subjecting them to further problems. Cracks allow decay to find a way into the inner portion of the tooth leading to infection and the need for a root canal.
•  Severely decayed teeth are weak teeth. When Dr. Matz has determined that a tooth is decayed beyond repair, he may stop the damage with the recommendation of a strong cap, known as a dental crown.
•  When Dr. Matz has performed a root canal procedure, he was able to stop the infection, but the integrity of the tooth has been compromised, to strengthen the natural structure, he may recommend a dental crown.
•  Weakened teeth will continue to deteriorate with time and regular daily use.

Crowns provide protection and strength for your tooth.

How do dental crowns work?

Happy patient who received crowns from dentist Douglas Matz at Arbor View Dental Portland ORDental crowns work by entirely encasing your natural tooth structure, acting as a shield to your tooth. This allows you to chew and speak normally while protecting your tooth. Crowns are custom made to replicate the original tooth that it's covering. This allows the crown to be a perfect fit in your mouth with your jaw alignment, so it will not feel foreign in your mouth. We work with a dental lab and send a mold of your tooth and bite for a perfect fit. Color is also important, we take into consideration the color of your other natural teeth helping the crown to blend in your mouth. Crowns come in many more shades of white than you can imagine! Occasionally, our patients may choose to have us whiten their surrounding teeth before having a crown placed, crowns will not whiten after they are placed.
