For some people, teeth whitening
with harsh chemicals is just not a good option. But if that bright, white, movie-screen smile is still desired, there must be other options. If this describes you, porcelain veneers might be the solution you’ve been searching for. We can provide you with custom-fitted laminates that are molded fitted directly over the front of existing teeth to attain the exact appearance you’re after.
Are veneers right for me?Beyond just enhancing the color of the tooth, porcelain veneers can be a great solution for enhancing the size, shape and overall appearance of the smile. Other important benefits of this solution are of a more practical nature. Porcelain veneers can artificially enhance the strength of a tooth in addition to its appearance. The durability of a good smile can be just as important as its initial appearance after an expensive and/or lengthy procedure to improve its “curb appeal”.
What is the process of applying veneers like?If you decide that the dental veneer is the right solution for you, there are several things to keep in mind about the procedure. After the initial diagnosis and consultation, we will need to prepare the tooth (or teeth) for the veneer by removing a thin layer of enamel from the target site to allow room for the thin veneer to be applied. After removal, a custom mold will be taken of the teeth and sent to a laboratory for construction. A week or two later, your custom veneer will arrive at our office, ready for final installation. In urgent cases, a temporary veneer can be applied during the interim.
The application process in itself can be a bit lengthy, as we carefully fits the permanent unit to your teeth. Dental veneers are a great option for many people because they are a permanent solution to smile aesthetics and/or utility. As with any permanent medical procedure, we take our time in carefully applying the unit to enhance your smile for a lifetime.
What are the benefits of veneers? The benefits of a dental veneer are manifold. Beyond general aesthetic enhancement, the porcelain veneer is also highly stain resistant and the surrounding soft tissue tolerates the product well. One other advantage of the porcelain veneer that is very important to many is simply the fact that the porcelain veneer is more or less indistinguishable from the natural appearance of a tooth to the untrained eye.
There are several important drawbacks to keep in mind about the veneer as well. The process is irreversible once installation has begun. Porcelain is not a perfect material. It is still subject to cracking or chipping under hard use or poor care. Thus, this option is not recommended for individuals who grind or clench their teeth and those who have an existing history of gum disease or preexisting weakening caused by fracture, decay, or excessively large fillings.
